For character development of course.
I miss my OCs right now.
that is what we do to are ocs we hurt them BAD for there own good
After watching the second episode, my first thoughts were “Wow, Jeff, we get it! You’re almost trying too hard
but please please don’t ever stop.” Everything we saw basically just reinforced all of my beliefs and theories about Stiles having worked with the pack over the summer behind Scott’s back. (You can read the original theory here)Here’s why.
The first clue we get might be the most obvious. When Derek is talking to Allison, he points out that she shot “about 30 arrows into me and my pack.” But here’s the thing: Derek wasn’t there when Allison captured Boyd and Erica. None of the other pack mates were. Not even Scott. The Argents saw them, but they would in no way ever share that information with Derek. The only other person to see Erica and Boyd after the archery attack was Stiles. They were immediately captured by the Alphas after their release, so Stiles is the only one who could relay that information to Derek.
When Stiles was talking to Scott, just before the Alpha twins walked by, the way he was asking questions was off. We’ve seen him normally be adamant, intense; curiosity and interest seep into every word. The questions felt repeated and over-stressed about. And when he suggested that they might want Derek, that they were recruiting, I got the distinct feeling that this was his theory and he wanted someone to be on his side with it. This whole conversation to me was Stiles finally getting the chance to talk to Scott, to speculate with him, to use him as a sounding board. It’s like when you promise to wait and watch the new episode with your best friend, and then lose patience and watch it without them. You already have all of these theories and questions and holy shit pack of Alphas, but have to wait and feign ignorance when you just want to get your best friend’s opinion and thoughts on all the things.
“Derek says it’s easier to turn teenagers.” Okay, what? When? Huh? And why was Scott not included in this conversation, because this is obviously new information to him? Stiles speculated that maybe teenagers might have a better chance of surviving the bite in season 2, but we’ve never seen this confirmed on screen. Which means at some point since then, Derek and Stiles were talking. About werewolf stuff. Without Scott.
Derek and Stiles are acting like pack. Or something close to it. When Isaac apparently reveals that he saw Erica’s body and Derek tries to deny it, Stiles throws himself in with their lot - “doesn’t leave us much room for interpretation.” Which, by itself, isn’t much. But then how easily Derek just passed the researching over to Stiles as if it were second nature. Let him plan the whole thing (with minor changes to account for werewolf strength). This is Derek I’m-not-giving-up-anything-about-anything Hale of the famous “maybe I do it to protect you.” Hoarding useful information has been like a key character trait even in the face of death and destruction. And here he is, letting Stiles tackle the information side of things. Just like that.
Derek gave absolutely no averse reaction to Stiles just reaching out and touching him. That was so not the case in previous seasons, which were full of double takes and funny looks. Then, after being punched in the hand, hard, Stiles showed no hesitation to returning to stand right next to Derek. That was a show of total and complete lack of fear and of complete trust and comfortableness around Derek. He might be an asshole, but he’s not dangerous, and Stiles is no longer afraid.
The next is very important. Ignoring the innuendo behind Stiles’ “Yeah, if you want me to come,” it actually reveals a lot. Up until now, Stiles has been involved in werewolf things by association. Namely, his association to Scott and his desire to keep him alive. He’s always deferred to Scott on everything werewolf related. But here? He freaking forgot Scott was there. He automatically assumed Derek meant him, because why wouldn’t he? They’ve been doing this all summer. And Derek’s “not you” spoke very heavily of “dammit Stiles!” Because they both know that if Scott finds out they’ve been working together behind his back, it would be very, very bad. For them both.
Now, all of those are important and lend credence to the theory. But the biggest clue of all in this episode had nothing at all to do with Derek and had everything to do with his pack and their interactions with Stiles.
After Isaac got out of the tub, he immediately turned to Stiles to tell him where the bank was. Not Derek, his Alpha. Not Scott, with whom he has an obvious connection and trusts. But Stiles. And then, after looking around to see that everyone was staring and looking somber, he turned again to Stiles to ask “what?” Going off of just season 2 interaction, this makes absolutely no sense. Derek is his alpha, why is he turning to a human that is only associated through a non-pack werewolf? Unless of course, he’s used to working with Stiles and filtering information through him.
Peter was seriously the biggest, most obvious, glaring spotlight of a clue. *sassy voice* Let me explain you a thing. Stiles and Peter have interacted 4 times (not including Alpha!Peter interactions, though the month-long murderous rampage is worth noting). The first, he watched Peter kick the shit out of Derek. Second, he was kidnapped and forced to leave the bleeding love of his life on the ground, had his head smashed against a computer, his Jeep keys ruined and was offered the bite. The third, Peter was trying to kill everyone and Stiles set him on fire. And the fourth, Stiles watched Peter gut Jackson. Oh, and Peter also sent Lydia love-of-Stiles’-life Martin spiraling down into literally, actually, mentally-unstable insanity. Stiles from what we’ve seen has always been disgusted of Peter and afraid of him. And after season 2 there is no reason to assume that would’ve changed. Knowing what we know, zombie!Peter should be more disgusting to Stiles and someone who makes him uncomfortable, weary, and more than a little pissed at his existence. He should unignorably hate him.
But that’s not what we see. We don’t really see disgust at all. We see resignation. We see thoroughly routine banter. We see quips and slights at one another. Peter threatened to beat Stiles unconscious, and he just ignored it, then goaded him later on when Peter called him annoying. There’s a habitual feel to their dynamic, like coworkers or a regular customer at a coffee shop. Most importantly, we see Stiles being totally comfortable hanging out in Derek’s loft alone with Peter. This is the dead give-away. This supposed to be the first time Stiles even enters the place and he’s totally cool with being left alone with an undead murderous psycho? No way. Unless of course he’s already had to get used to it.
Also, watching Isaac and Peter’s reactions to Stiles and Derek’s interactions, the slight smirks, rolls of the eyes, and small shakes of their heads. That isn’t “things are really serious right now, they need to stop bickering.” It was all very much “here we go again.” As if they’ve seen this particular song and dance. Many many times. Several times in a row. In several different positions. (yes, I had to.)
Again, everything above just reinforces the idea that Stiles has been working with Derek and his pack over the summer. And I’ve actually changed my mind since last week. After seeing the physical dynamic between all of them, I think there was a lot more in-person interaction over the summer than I’d originally guessed.
I think Jeff knew we’d figure it out. I’ve watched both episodes about half a dozen times, and it feels to me like he’s leaving clues for the casual viewers. Like the Kate/Derek scene in The Tell (1x05) that made WAY more sense after we knew about their history (and was also far more painful). I think he’s developing it in such a way that after it’s revealed, it’ll be something casual viewers can look back on and go “oh yeah, that makes so much more sense now!”
This is beautiful. *swoons*
You keep me up all night
For that anon who wanted possessive!Derek and I must say you are a lucky ducky. Less than one day and you won request lottery!

Sterek AU: Warm Bodies
“So… What’s your name?” Derek asks, pushing around a canned peach with his plastic fork.
“Uh.” Is the zombie’s response, much more intelligent than he’d originally thought the corpses were. Sure, it’s not a full conversation, but this one tries. This one saved him, and didn’t eat him while he slept.
“Do you not have a name?” He asks, looking at the confused expression on the corpse’s face. Maybe he can’t remember it. Derek thinks it’s sad.
“Uh. St…Uh, I..” It tries, scratching at the buzz cut hair, foggy eyes searching the room and then Derek’s face.
“…Stuart?” He supplies, but the corpse shakes his head, nose turned up. “Steven? Stu? S…Stiles?”
“Huh?” That catches his attention, the last one.
“Stiles.” Derek nods, thinking it’s odd, but good. Like him. “That can be your name. Okay?”
Stiles does something like a smile, “Oh…Okay.”
